Stevia World 2009 gave due recognition to stevia as sugar substitutes in food and pharmaceutical products. Held on 14-15 May in Shanghai, it was the first global stevia event in Asia and received overwhelming response and rave reviews.
An international panel of speakers from Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa pinpointed the global opportunities in Stevia and addressed supply, technological and regulatory issues that need to be in-place for widespread application.
In fact, all delegates rated the conference as “Excellent” and “Good“, and were eager to share testimonials on what made their experience at Stevia World 2009 so meaningful.
A representative from Nestlé’s R&D center commented on the Stevia World 2009 panelists, “Stevia World 2009 was made up of knowledgeable, international key stevia players. I learnt a lot here.”
Echoing the views from Nestlé, a researcher from Dole Asia Co. commented, “I learnt a lot from the experts at Stevia World 2009. This has been a wonderful experience for me and I got to know about the specifics of the stevia plant.”

Another valuable element that made Stevia World 2009 a big success was the networking opportunities. Stevia World 2009 was an excellent platform to meet global stevia stakeholders from the entire value chain, from growers to producers to end-users. KWS Saat AG’s representative reflected on the atmosphere at Stevia World 2009. He said, “Speakers and delegates at SteviaWorld 2009 were very open and friendly, and willing to share a lot of information with me.”
The Chairman of Green Valley Stevia commented, “Interacting with different personalities from all over the world was a very positive experience“. His colleague added, “I had a very good experience establishing a strong network in the global stevia industry.”
In short, Stevia World 2009 in China was “A great occasion for the global stevia industry to get together.” Prof. David Midmore, a leading Stevia expert from Australia’s Central Queensland University, provided this beautifully summed up statement, reflecting the views of all who attended the conference.
